Long-lasting vintage
17. November 2009.Vintage report from our viticulturist István Varkoly:
Thanks to the warm, dry summer the plantations have produced more sugar. We harvested the Yellow Muscat in early September, and then barrelled the material for the dry Furmint. We were able to collect excellent quality Tokay grapes, but fewer than expected.
Ákos Keresztes wine-maker added the following:
This year's vintage is perhaps the longest ever. The first box of Yellow Muscat arrived on 8th September and there are still some grapes out on the vine-stocks on 11th November; harvesting was held up by the Autumn rains. Dry wines - furmint, hárslevelű -, the semi-dry Muscat Lunel and the semi-sweet hárslevelű have all fermented, while the sweet wines are still fermenting.

Mi hathatósabb a bornál ugyan?
Nem látd: az ember, hogyha jót iszik,
Mily dús, pörét megnyerte, végrehajt
Mindent, barátját fölsegéli; boldog.
Hozz hát nekem egy kancsóval: az eszem
Hadd áztatom meg s mondok egy okost.”
